The Experience

What Long Island Top Shots actually is

Long Island Top Shots is private clay shooting — all-inclusive outings and professional lessons for groups or one-on-ones. Skeet, sporting clays, and trap, packed onto our own training field instead of a walk around a public course. Up to seven or eight machines throw targets from near to about 50 yards, different angles and trajectories, one high-energy field. The public does not shoot with you. It's a private experience.

On the field you'll find two big picnic tables. If it rains lightly — or it's just too hot — we put out tents so you stay comfortable.

Year-round option

An add-on for wind, rain, or snow — not the usual day, and not an indoor range.

Year-round sheltered shooting

Shoot through wind, rain, and snow

Weather doesn’t cancel the blast. We shoot from a metal shipping container — five windows, a door, benches, a wood stove, and the same machines on the field. Not a traditional indoor range. You’re warm, dry, and still breaking clays. Year-round.

  • Wooden rack of black pump shotguns beside a wood stove inside the metal shooting container

  • Wood stove fire glowing inside the sheltered metal container

What's included

Show up. We handle the rest.

Guns, ammo, clays, eye and ear, private field. You bring people who want to laugh and break targets.

  • An orange clay target shattering — every target is included

    All the targets, included

Every clay is part of the per-person price — break them or let a few go while you learn. You’re not paying extra either way.

  • Sporting clays 5-stand course with shooters, machines, and a broken clay

    Mike’s instruction, course, and games

Personal coaching the whole time — not a drop-and-shoot rental. Start on stationary, then flying targets. Squads and scoring if the group wants it.

  • A shotgun held safely across the chest, included for the outing

    Guns, always included

Shotguns sized for all body types, as a courtesy. Bring your own if you have them — you’re welcome to. Outings are shotguns only: no pistols, no rifles.

  • Winchester AA trap and sporting clays shells with orange clays

Two boxes of ammo (50 shells) per person

Plus clay targets on a private field — those come with the outing, not as an add-on. Seven to eight newer machines, 0–45 yards. Lots of action. Sporting clays 5-stand is the favorite; trap if you ask.

  • Shooting glasses, ear muffs, and earplugs laid out and ready

    Eye and ear protection

You do not need to shop first. Show up ready to shoot.

Who it's for

  1. A mixed-age group on the range — first-timers welcome

    First-timers

Never held a shotgun? Perfect. Mike starts you on stationary, then flying clays. He has all different size guns, so no matter how tall or small you are, there’s always something that fits — not too big, not too heavy. Nobody will be in any pain. Extra shoulder pads are included if your shoulders are sensitive. Guns, ammo, and coaching are in. You’ll be laughing by the second pair.

    Getting serious

Already shooting and want to get better? Same host, more focus. Mike’s own record is the proof.

Advanced 1-on-1 is $150 / 2 hours. Ammo and targets are not included.

Mike is a very accomplished student of world sporting clays champion Anthony I. Matarese Jr. Competitors know the name. His skeet shooting was shaped at the time by Todd Bender and John Shima. Younger years competing in trap, he was taught by the great Kay Ohye. The world’s best coaches taught him through 30+ years of clay target shooting.

My husband and I had a private lesson with Mike, and it was absolutely incredible! He’s not only very knowledgeable, but also funny and made the entire experience so enjoyable. We shot his shotguns with clay targets, and he explained everything clearly, making us feel confident and safe while also having an amazing time. Highly recommend Mike if you’re looking for a great instructor and an unforgettable experience! We will definitely be back for more fun!

Just had such a great clay shooting lesson with Mike Marelli! Not only was it a ton of fun, but he explained everything so clearly and effortlessly. This being my first time with clay shooting, he was very encouraging and able to break things down in a way that made complete sense. Whenever I missed, he immediately pointed out what went wrong and showed me how to fix it. He made the whole experience feel approachable and fun, which is exactly what you want when trying something new. I left feeling not just better at shooting, but also excited to do it again. Whether you’re a total beginner, a regular, or at the pro level, Mike would make an incredible coach. Super fun, knowledgeable, easy to learn from, and just a cool guy. Thanks Mike!

Mike is awesome. I went from never handling a firearm to hitting double clays by the end of the session. Clear communicator and fun times as well. Highly recommended!

I usually never leave reviews, but Mike is so great I felt the need to write one. Hands down the best Saturday I’ve had this summer. Mike is awesome. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable and fun adventure then this is for you. I came here for a private lesson with my fiance and we both had a great time and learned so much.

My first time ever shooting clay targets and it was a blast!!! Mike made the group of 4 very comfortable and kept everything loose with his demeanor and knowledge. It didn't matter if you were an experienced shooter or not, all tips were helpful and spot on. I would 100% recommend Mike and his experience. Well done Mike !!! And Mike, Drifters was lunch was spot on haha

Mike is an excellent instructor. I took a clay shooting lesson from him and he was nothing short of awesome. The lesson was an hour and a half, and for the first hour plus, I totally sucked. Mike remained confidant he would find a technique for me. He was encouraging and we have really good communication. Then it all just clicked and I was finally hitting targets consistently. I fully encourage anyone to take a class from Mike. He's great!
